Top Ten Reasons to Choose Administrative Assisting

Wednesday, September 7th, 2016

Pursuing training as an Administrative Assistant is a great choice.  This training can be applied in a variety of settings, and it often allows for advancement within a company. Several of our graduates have started in entry level positions and risen to higher levels of management as their experience increases. Our graduates have been hired at insurance offices, attorney’s offices, real estate firms, health care facilities, and many other places in West Tennessee.

So why should YOU choose the Administrative Assistant program at West Tennessee Business College?

Here’s a Top Ten List for you!

  • Because positions in this field are in high demand in the West Tennessee area.  Our Placement Coordinator has several job openings right now that she can’t fill!
  • Because we prepare you well!  Our courses cover Accounting, Oral and Written Communication, Office Procedures, Microsoft Word and Excel, and a variety of other courses. And textbooks are included in the cost of your tuition!
  • Because at WTBC you will get small class sizes and personal attention.  This is your chance to gain leadership skills and hands on experience with instructors who truly care about your success! And our flexible scheduling allows you to take courses in the daytime or in the evening.
  • Because our Administrative Assistant program ends with a five week externship where students gain valuable real world experience in the career that they have prepared for.
  • Because we have an amazing Career Placement coordinator who works to assist you with resume writing and interview skills and then steps in to assist you in finding a job!
  • Because all of our programs include a five week Professional Development course in which students focus directly on those “soft skills” that are so important in the work environment!  Employers tell us that this is one of the most valuable courses that we provide.
  • According to the US Department of Education’s College Scorecard website, WTBC has one of the highest graduation rates in West Tennessee (73% – national average is 43%) with a below average annual cost and an above average score for the number of students who return after their first year.
  • The Administrative Assistant program offers almost limitless opportunities for those who are successful in this program.  Many of our graduates have been promoted in their departments, and some have risen to management positions.  We have graduates who are working in medical offices, legal departments, insurance agencies, and a variety of other environments.  Many of these employees were hired for their current positions directly from their externships.
  • Our students take only one course at a time and focus on courses that they actually need.  There are no “electives” or extra courses that they are forced to take – the emphasis is placed directly on their career needs.
  • WTBC has been in the business of turning out highly-skilled, professional employees for West Tennessee since 1888.  Our school has been able to adapt its academic programs to the changing demands of the business environment as well as to individual student needs.

Chrystal Comer – June 2016 Student of the Month

Thursday, June 16th, 2016

061616 June 2016 SOM

Congratulations to Chrystal Comer for being selected as the June 2016 Student of the Month.   Chrystal is a night school student in the medical billing specialist program and is completing her last module before heading off to her externship. Staff and faculty say that she is focused and always has a smile on her face.

Instructor, Tonia Franks, had this to say about Chrystal:

Crystal is a very hard working student.  She generally makes Dean’s List or right at it every module of her program.  She works not only on class work, but also on extra workbooks in preparation for her certification exam that’s coming up.  Last module, Chrystal had one family member who was very ill, along with taking care of another family member during that time .  She still came in before class to make up a test so she wouldn’t be behind.  She is a very well put together lady. I truly enjoyed her.

Congratulations Chrystal on all your hard work.  We have no doubt that you will be successful in your future career!
